Allspice Garden and Event Plaza

The Garden Plaza is a centerpiece of our reimagined space: a new and fully accessible place for convening and being in community at Mellon. The Plaza is flexible to support a range of activities: poetry readings, musical events, film screenings, as well as staff lunches, meetings, and social gatherings. A confluence of bluestone paving is visible here, revealing a rich tapestry of naturally occurring color that is surprising and, by design, purposefully departs from Manhattan’s grid system through a joyful non-orthogonal layout.

To the south, the adjacent Allspice Garden showcases one of the space’s most extraordinary samples of bluestone: a weathered stone that was introduced to create a new bed for plants and also a natural place for sitting. The stone frames an understory of blooming plants and trees that will change throughout the year.
