Pawpaw

With green skin, yellow flesh, and large black seeds inside, the fruit of the pawpaw tree is the largest edible fruit indigenous to North America. Ripening in late August through October, the large, nutritious fruit has a flavor similar to bananas and mangos, and can be eaten raw or cooked, often in a variety of desserts. The pawpaw is ancient; archeologists have discovered its seeds and remnants, often in large quantities, suggesting its importance as a food source for Indigenous peoples.
