Galanthus nivalis
Native Range: Europe
Snowdrops are named for their low-to-the-ground flowers, carpet the earth in white blooms in late winter, mimicking a blanket of snow. Like cherry blossoms, the appearance of snowdrops in late February is celebrated as the change from winter to spring, drawing its unique following of enthusiasts, called “galanthophiles,” to flower festivals across the United Kingdom and western Europe.
